Yoga at Home

Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the Self.

Bhagavad Gita

Yoga is Union

From the Sanskrit word “yug” which means union. Union with all existence. Union with your Being. Yoga is the journey and the path.

Yoga focuses on release from suffering. It proposes physical, mental and energetic methods to achieve illumination and freeing the body and mind from suffering, leading to harmony.

Yoga is everything: intention, thought, word or deed, performed by anyone, regardless of their religion or philosophy of life, with the aim of uniting.

Yoga at MAMADEVI

The style practiced and its influences

01

Hatha Yoga

Style of yoga in which there is greater permanence in physical postures (asanas). Included are  breathing exercises (pranayamas), mantras, mudras and meditation. In EndoYoga, there is a lot of influence from Yin Yoga and restorative yoga.

03

Precision & Flow

The Manu School of Yoga's Precision and Flow method emphasises the structure and precision of asanas (body postures) in order to flow afterwards. This way, the risk of injury is minimised.

02

Filosofia

Rooted in the classical Tantra non-dualist philosophy of Kashmir Shaivism. The practices adapt to the practitioner; rather than the practitioner who tries to enter the practice by force. On the other hand, there is no right or wrong, only conscience.

04

Root to rise

Without earth to contain it, water slides, floods, creates chaos. Therefore, in my practices I give primacy to the earth element, rooting, gaining emotional structure to contain the currents of the water element, the emotions. Thus, emotions flow within the banks of the river that we are. It can expand the banks, but without flooding the surrounding villages. Earth and water structure the remaining elements.

what is not yoga

Work-out

Yoga is much more than the physical exercises performed (asanas). Although it has immense benefits for the body, Yoga is not a sport. In fact, Asanas are just one of the eight limbs of yoga defined in Pantajali's Yoga Sutras. And even in the book, the goal of practicing Asanas is not to make you healthier or to make you feel good about your body. It's about making your body strong enough for meditation. "Yoga is not a work-out, it is a work-in".

Lifestyle

It's not about fashion, is it? Surely you can buy yoga clothes and I'm sure even yoga cutlery these days! But Yoga is not something you wear. It's not a lifestyle either. It is not something that is done, although there is a methodology associated with it. Yoga is not even about becoming, despite talking about who have become enlightened. Light is what you already are, behind the clouds. Yoga is who you are.

Yoga is Being.

Religion

Although it shares many ideas with Jainism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism and even Christianity, Yoga does not speak of gods. It certainly does not speak of any external being. Yes, it has many stories about gods, which should be interpreted only as archetypes and energies. They are allegories. Yoga is not a belief system or ideology. These are methodologies that can be practiced by anyone, of any creed, agnostic or atheist.
